Oppo the phone company based in Dongguan, China has released their flagship phone the Oppo Find X. Comparisons will be made to the iPhone X nut just in name but also on shape and design. However, the Oppo has no notch but it also has a similar aesthetic to the Galaxy S9 from Samsung but with the impressive feature which slides a motorized top part with both the rear and front cameras. Design wise this phone might be the most impressive and elegant phone ever made up to this point.
The phone has no 4k 60p like others in its class but does have 240fps 1080p and 480fps 720p video. There is something akin to this phone and the OnePlus 6 in that they share the video specs. Are these phones similarly built or it is just a fluke? We tend to see a homogenized spec sheet on these handsets as technology is standardized in China within camera modules. It is encouraging to see so many phones having the slow motion feature included and prominently displayed in the feature run-down.

Oppo Find X: Motorized Madness! by Marques Brownlee:
As you can see from the Marques Brownlee video above, the mechanism from the Oppo Find X is mesmerizing and a complete surprise since it is a departure from every other phone that has a bezel or notch at the top of the phone. One huge problem will be durability but our main concern is the lack of really tough shielding from the elements as the phone with a sliding panel simply cannot be waterproofed or be completely free from dust or sand. However, you have to give it to Oppo for creating something that really is unique with a nearly bezel-less 93.8% coverage screen design to boot.
There is no question the Oppo Find X phone is powerful with a lot of tech inside it, but that mechanism will get you a trip to warranty repair sooner than a closed phone. It has good safety controls for the mechanism but expect it to break unexpectedly for reasons like drops, sand, water or opening forced. And how will you design a case with a top that extends? It basically makes it a two-part design by having a specific piece for the top. Case designers nightmare for sure. We expect other phones to do this soon as it is just a great way to get around the screen sensor/camera notch.
Oppo claims the mechanism to last 300,000+ Times so that may bring some comfort from opening and closing the device several times a day, especially for face unlock!
OPPO Find X Hands-on – is this the future? by YugaTech:
What about the higher frame rate samples?
As with any new phone introduction there is next to nothing in the way of slow motion or video samples unless you are Samsung, Sony or Apple which are confident in sharing their video samples to scrutiny. On the Oppo Finx X launch event here there are no samples of the video capabilities so we will have to wait.
We did find what claims to be a real slow motion sample of the video but we cannot confirm this as it seems to be just another clickbait video. We will have real samples when available to share if you still want to see what that supposed video looks like see below with a grain of salt for good measure.

Other Notes:
The Oppo Find X will not be a cheap phone this is the expected pricing:
- €999 Euros in Europe (Standard Edition)
- €1699 Euros in Europe (Lamborghini Edition)
That is quite a pretty penny and while Oppo has stated that they want to release it in the US this year they have not mentioned the date or pricing. We expect it to be a $999 USD phone for the basic non-luxury version and $1699 at least for the Lamborghini Edition.
The Lamborghini Edition will have Super VOOC charging, which will charge the entire 3,400mAh battery from 0 to 100% in under 35 minutes. It also has carbon fiber in the body and logos and accents that may justify the price difference. There is no word if any of the internal specs besides the charging will change materially. We expect it to have more internal storage and possibly a set of apps that will be Lamborghini branded.
We will share any new video samples when the phone has been released in the wild. We are excited by what the slow motion feature might bring and the video quality the phone will output at 240fps 1080p. With so much technology inside it could be a real scene stealer. Stay Tuned -HSC
